Dispatchers or communications officers are often the first individuals the public either speaks to by phone or sees when coming to the police station. They are responsible to receive complaints and requests for emergency services from citizens by telephone and in person. They dispatch appropriate agencies when and where necessary; provide emergency medical instructions and dispatch pre-arrival instructions to callers when necessary. Dispatchers need to be very coordinated in their efforts and be able to handle multiple assignments at once. It is their responsibility to coordinate assistance from other agencies, send and receive information by teletype and access computer data bases. The West Fargo Police Department has 7 dispatchers that provide 24 hour-a-day, 365 days-a-year service to the citizens of West Fargo. The following serve as police dispatchers:
