Press Release - Khat Drug Being Delivered to Local Hotels
On 10/03/2013, the local Drug Task force was notified by FedEx that they had a suspicious package which contained an illegal drug called "Khat." The package weighed approximately 113 lbs. and was shipped from over seas enroute to a West Fargo hotel. Through the investigation it appears that the suspects are mailing packages to area hotels under different names. The suspect is contacting the hotel and informing the front desk they plan on staying the night at the hotel and wanting staff to sign for the package for later pickup.
Local hotel staff are asked to watch for susicious behavior and encouraged to contact their local law enforcement agency if they receive suspicious calls regarding accepting packages for guests.
A 36lb Khat seizure was recorded by the local Drug Task force in June of this year. Charges are pending in that case.
"Khat" contains a scheduled drug called Cathinone and is illegal to possess. Possession of "Khat" is a class C felony.
